Luftgekühlt Vol. 2

Editorial Design • Art Direction • Brand Storytelling • Print Design

Luftgekühlt has become one of the most celebrated gatherings in the Porsche community, known for showcasing not only iconic air-cooled cars, but also the people, craftsmanship, and stories that surround them. The goal of the second edition of the Luftgekühlt Book was to create a premium publication that reflected that same philosophy—transforming the energy of the event into a collectible editorial experience.

Working alongside Creative Director Jeff Zwart, I helped design a 248-page book that brought together photography, historical content, and storytelling into a cohesive visual narrative. Rather than functioning as a traditional event recap, the book was designed to extend the Luftgekühlt brand beyond a single weekend, creating an object enthusiasts would return to long after the event had ended.

The Challenge
The challenge was balancing an enormous volume of visual and editorial content while maintaining a refined, consistent experience from cover to cover. The publication needed to showcase multiple photographers, feature stories, archival imagery, and technical details without ever feeling crowded or repetitive.

Every design decision needed to reinforce the premium nature of the Luftgekühlt brand while allowing the photography and stories to remain the focal point.

Creative Approach
Working alongside Creative Director Jeff Zwart and the editorial team, I helped shape the visual direction of the publication by developing a cohesive editorial system that balanced storytelling, photography, and design. Rather than treating each spread as an individual composition, the book was approached as a complete narrative—carefully considering pacing, hierarchy, and visual rhythm from beginning to end.

The design philosophy centered on restraint. Clean typography, generous white space, and disciplined grid systems allowed the photography and stories to take center stage while reinforcing the premium nature of the Luftgekühlt brand. Every layout was intentionally crafted to guide readers through nearly 250 pages, alternating immersive full-bleed imagery with quieter editorial moments to create a reading experience that felt cinematic rather than repetitive.

From typography and image sequencing to chapter pacing and page composition, every design decision was made in service of the larger story. The result is a publication that feels timeless, cohesive, and unmistakably Luftgekühlt—one that extends the brand beyond the event itself and into a collectible piece of editorial storytelling.

Impact
The Luftgekühlt Book V2 became more than an event companion—it evolved into a lasting extension of the Luftgekühlt brand. Designed as a premium collectible, the publication reinforces the event's reputation for thoughtful storytelling, timeless design, and meticulous attention to detail while giving enthusiasts a tangible way to experience the culture beyond the show itself.

The book's initial print run sold out, prompting a second printing to meet continued demand. It remains available today, underscoring its lasting appeal within the Porsche community and its success as both a brand-building piece and a highly sought-after collector's item.
